Promperú, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism, in collaboration with Puno’s Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism, relaunched the promotion of tourist attractions. This is aimed at stimulating tourism recovery in the highland region.
The event took place on Esteves Island, located on the shores of the legendary Lake Titicaca, and featured traditional dance troupes, local producers, artisans, coffee growers, associations, and regional entrepreneurs.
The initiative, coordinated in partnership with the Provincial Municipality of Chucuito-Juli and Sandía, seeks to highlight Puno’s cultural, natural, and gastronomic wealth.
Ricardo Limo Del Castillo, PromPerú’s Director of Export Promotion, emphasized the importance of this campaign. “The joint effort of the regional government and PromPerú aims to promote the diverse tourist attractions in the Puno region,” said Castillo.
“Puno has much to offer to both Peru and the world, including its culture, traditions, landscapes, and a biodiversity of crops like coffee, quinoa, cañihua, and fava beans,” added Castillo.
The relaunch event also announced the strengthening of the upcoming International Special Coffee Fair (Ficafé) Puno 2023, scheduled from November 3-6. This fair promises to be a significant event for promoting specialty coffees produced in the region.
Limo Del Castillo committed to securing more than 35 international buyers for this international specialty coffee fair, intending to boost economic movement in favor of coffee producers from different regions of Peru.
Belizabeth Carranza, representative of Puno’s Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism, stated that they expect this event to attract a higher number of both domestic and international visitors. These visitors will have the opportunity to experience Puno’s unique natural, cultural, and gastronomic wonders.
The event was a feast of color and music. Regional dances like the Diablada Puneña, K’ajelos de Pichacani Laraquerí, Huarakero de Sandia, and the Tuntuna livened up the day, reflecting Puno’s rich cultural heritage.
